What About TV? 1-29-2010

I was reading a briefing from a notable children's hospital that I subscribe to lately and it made sense to me to include it in our tip schedule, even though it is not directly related to twins. It was in the for of a Q&A. Q: My daughter's favorite TV show is during lunchtime. Can I let her eat lunch in front of the TV? A: Your best judgment provides the answer in your own home. Keep in mind that eating while watching TV is one of the risk factors associated with childhood obesity. That does not mean that your daughter will become obese if she eats while watching TV. A risk factor is simply one element identified in a wide range of factors that create a pattern of living that can lead to a result, such as obesity. If your daughter is otherwise physically active and participates in family meals with all their developmental benefits at other times, lunch and a favorite show will not harm her. Like most things, I like the simplicity of the answer. Even with risk factors, just do the right thing. Be active, participate in family meals and balance things and your kids will be fine.
